60 years ago, New Zealand mountaineer Sir Edmund Hillary and Nepalese Sherpa Tenzing Norgay made the first confirmed ascent of the highest peak in the world - Mount Everest, which reaches 8,848 meters. Since then thousands of people have tried to conquer Mount Everest, many of them failed. In late May, 80-year-old Japanese climber Yuichiro Miura became the oldest man in the world, conquering Everest. Miura made it for the third time. He admitted that he was on the verge of death during the descent. First conquerors of Everest Hillary and Norgay stayed on top for only 15 minutes.
